Port Elizabeth

Ma première carte d'Afrique du Sud. Port Elizabeth porte le nom de l'épouse du gouverneur du Cap, Rufane Donkin qui fonda la ville en 1820. Elle est surnommée "friendly city" ou la ville de l'amitié.

My first postcard from South Africa. Port Elizabeth was founded by Rufane Donkin, the Acting Governor of the Cape, who named it after his late wife, Elizabeth. The city is call "frindly city".

Porvoo is a city of 47,000 inhabitants located in southerne Finland, about 50 kilometers from Helsinki. This is one of the six medieval city in Finland. The city has many wooden houses.

Olomouc

La colonne de la Sainte Trinité d'Olomouc en Moravie, République Tchèque fait 35 mètres de haut. Elle a été construite en 1740 en remerciement à Dieu après une épidémie de peste. Elle est due au sculpteur Ondrej Zahner. Elle est inscrite depuis 2000 sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.

The Holy Trinity column in Olomouc, Moravia, Czech Republic is 35 meters high. It was built in 1740 by Ondrej Zahner in honor of God after a plague. In 2000, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Beijing

Aujourd'hui j'ai reçu une carte de Chine représentant le Pékin moderne. Cette carte a été postée le 1er septembre, elle aura mis presque 6 semaines pour voyager.
Cette carte est agrémentée de superbes timbres représentant le palais d'été, un jardin impérial, à Pekin, qui fait partie de la liste du patrimoine UNESCO.

Today I received a postcard from China showing the modern Beijing. This card was mailed on Septembre 1st and travelled 6 weeks.
On this card there are very beautiful stamps showing the summer palace in Beijing, an imperial garden, which was included on the world heritage liste of UNESCO.

Carte d'Ukraine

Aujourd'hui j'ai reçu une belle carte de Kiev en Ukraine.
La vue centrale représente Khreschatyk qui est la principale rue de Kiev.
Les vues supérieures réprésentent de gauche à droite :
- L'ancien hôtel "Praha",
- Le monument de Yaroslav le Sage (978-1054) qui était prince de Kiev,
- La reconstruction de la porte d'or.

Today, I received a beautiful card from Kyiv, Ukraine.
The main view shows Khreschatyk, the main street Kyiv. The others views are (from left to right) :
- The former "Praha" hotel
- The monument to Yaroslav the Wise,
- The reconstruction of the Golden Gates.

Saint Petersbourg

Aujourd'hui voyage dans l'ancienne capital des Tsars à St Petersbourg. La carte représente le Peterhoff, palais créé par le Tsar Pierre le Grand après une visite à Versailles. Cette résidence est considérée comme la plus belle résidence impériale russe.
Le palais a été construit par l'architecte Le Blond puis transformé par l’architecte italien Rastrelli sous le règne de l’impératrice Elisabeth. Les jardins sont impressionnants, ils s’étendent sur plus de 3 km de littoral.
La carte représente l'allée des fontaines et la vasque de la grande cascade (1715-1724).

Today we are travelling to the ancient capital of the Tsars in St Petersburg. The card shows the Peterhoff, Palace created by Tsar Peter the Great after a visit to Versailles in France. This palace is considered the most beautiful Russian imperial residence.The palace was built by the architect Le Blond and then transformed by the Italian architect Rastrelli in the reign of Empress Elizabeth. The gardens are impressive, they stretch over 3 km of coastline.The map shows the Fountain Avenue and the pool of the great waterfall (1715-1724).
