En 2010, le château d'Eggenberg a été reconnu comme un des sites du patrimoine culturel mondial par l'UNESCO.
Le premier château médiéval a été construit après 1460. Le palais baroque, qui est si magnifique, est l'œuvre d'un architecte italien de la Renaissance, Giovanni Pietro de Pomis pour un diplomate, le duc Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg, en 1625.
