Speyer Kaiserdom

Une nouvelle carte pour ma collection de sites inscrits au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO : La cathédrale de Spire, en Allemagne. C'est le siège de l'évêché catholique romain de Spire. La cathédrale est dédiée à Sainte Marie et à Saint Etienne. Elle est généralement connue sous le nom de " Speyer Kaiserdom" (cathédrale impériale de Spire). Sa construction a commencé en 1030 sous Conrad II. Pare la suite, elle fut le lieu de sépulture des empereurs et rois Saliens, Staufer et Habsbourg et fut considérée comme un symbole du pouvoir impérial.

Elle reste la plus grande église romane et l'un des monuments les plus importants de son temps. En 1981, la cathédrale a été inscrite sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.

This is a new UNESCO World Heritage site in my collection : The Speyer Cathedral, in Germany. This is the seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Speyer. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Mary and St. Stephen is generally known as Kaiserdom zu Speyer (Imperial Cathedral of Speyer). It was begun in 1030 under Conrad II. After, as the burial site for Salian, Staufer and Habsburg emperors and kings the cathedral is regarded as a symbol of imperial power. It remains the largest Romanesque church, one of the most important architectural monuments of its time. In 1981, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
