Kudu

Here is a postcard of Göttingen, Germany (Lower Saxony). This city has a great university tradition, scientific, literary and political. It is the city with the most Nobel Prize (42 Nobel have taught or studied at Göttingen). Göttingen also saw the birth of the group libéreaux called "seven of Göttingen", including the brothers Grimm. In 1837, these seven teachers refused to swear allegiance to the King. They are the subject of the stamp below.
The fountain that you see at the top left is called "Lison the goose girl" (Gänseliesel). Academic tradition is that on the day of their doctorate, postgraduate students are drawn in handcarts from the Great Hall to the Gänseliesel-Fountain (often accompanied by their family and all their friends). There they have to climb the fountain and kiss the statue of the Gänseliesel.

This postcard shows some views of Nuremberg, in Bavaria, Germany. It is located about 170 kilometres (110 mi) north of Munich and is Franconia's largest city. The population is 510,000 and the metropolitan area has 3.5 million inhabitants.
Nuremberg is known all over the World because between 1945 and 1946, a lot of German officials involved in the Holocaust and other war crimes were brought before an international tribunal in the Nuremberg Trials. This city were chosen for the trials because Nuremberg held great significance during the Nazi Germany era because of its position in the centre of Germany, the Nazi Party chose the city to be the site of huge Nazi Party conventions – the Nuremberg rallies. Now those days are past, and in the past they must remain. Nurnemberg is now a very beautiful and romantic city.
This card was sent to me from a U.S. base in Germany, that's explaining the American stamp.

Thank you Evelyne

Kentucky

Today we are going to Novgorod in Russia. The card is showing us the St. George's Monastery (or St Yuri Monastery). It is the Russia's oldest monastery. Historic Monuments of Novgorod and Surroundings are World Heritage Sites. The monastery seem to be founded in the 11th century by Yaroslav the Wise (whose Christian name was George), but the first historically-reliable reference to it is from the early 12th century when the main church the Church of St. George was founded (in 1119) by Prince Vsevolod Mstislavich of Novgorod and built by the master Peter.

Stuttgart

Let's go to Germany ... Stuttgart is the capital of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. It is the sixth largest city in Germany, with almost 600,000 inhabitants. The Stuttgart region is a densely populated urban area of about 5.3 million inhabitants, which makes the "greater Stuttgart Metropolitan Region" the fourth largest city-region in Germany after the Ruhr, Frankfurt and Berlin. Stuttgart is an amazing city because, unlike most German cities, it lies on a series of hills, valleys and parks. Stuttgart is nicknamed the 'cradle of the automobile' or 'Schwabenmetropole' (Swabian metropolis) as a reference to the Swabian dialect spoken by the autochthonous.

Caucase
