Tournai

Une carte postale de Tournai en Belgique. La cathédrale Notre-Dame de Tournai est la cathédrale de l'église catholique romaine du diocèse de Tournai. Commencée au 12ème siècle et construite en pierre bleues-grises, le bâtiment allie trois périodes architecturales avec des effets saisissants, le caractère lourd et sévère de la nef romane contraste avec le transept et le choeur entièrement gothique. Le transept est la partie la plus caractéristique de l'édifice, avec ses cinq clochers se terminant en absides. La Cathédrale est inscrite sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO depuis 2000.

A postcard from Tournai in Belgium. The Cathedral of Our Lady is Roman Catholic church, see of the Diocese of Tournai. Begun in the 12th century and built in blue-gray stone, the building combines the work of three design periods with striking effect, the heavy and severe character of the Romanesque nave contrasting remarkably with the Transitional work of the transept and the fully developed Gothic of the choir. The transept is the most distinctive part of the building, with its cluster of five bell towers and apsidal (semicircular) ends. It is a World Heritage Site since 2000.
